First Aiders Before True Doctors
Aim of the Project - To teach pre-clinical students at the Higher Institute of Medicine how to deliver first aid
Different forms of education on the delivery of first aid are included in the courses of Disaster Medicine, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Surgery etc. , but in neither one of these departments the information and practice given about first aid is complete or sufficient. Due to this reason students are not completely familiar with the problem and do not feel confident enough while delivering first aid. Faced with certain situation they are unable to evaluate the condition of a patient and also are afraid of delivering any kind of help due to uncertainty and lack of confidence in their ability to do so effectively. This is why the organization of such a course for the delivery of first aid is extremely essential both for pre-clinical students and willing students even from clinical courses.
From our personal experiences we feel that a medical student starts feeling like one when clinical aspects of medical training start, but up to that point they feel dissatisfied with their incompetence due to lack ok knowledge on how to deliver first aid if ever they need to do so. Thus by doing such a course they will feel more confident in their capabilities and this will motivate them in their future medical education.
